Did you ever dream of becoming a railroad engineer?
Most of us did but never attained our childhood dream. Our
certified engineer training program allows the volunteer to progress
through brakeman and engineer positions. If you still have any
fascination with the railroad there is a place for you.
Have you ever enjoyed acting? Do you enjoy working with children?
Do you enjoy history? Do you have a sense of pride in our area and
wish to make a meaningful contribution? For those who don't want
to go through the training program for brakeman and engineer there are
many volunteer opportunities to work as a conductor. Work with
children and enjoy their fun as they participate in the school charter
programs. These opportunities are available to those with the
desire to participate.
Other opportunities abound in fun and rewarding projects.
Volunteers are involved in daily operations of the museum
as well as specific projects which need to be accomplished.
Current needs include:
- Museum docents: The museum is kept open with volunteers.
Anyone with an interest in history is encouraged to help welcome the
tourists who frequent our museum.
- Engine 1364: Volunteers are needed to complete the restoration of
a 1902 steam engine.
- Car restoration: Use your carpentry, electrical, welding,
mechanical, and handyman skills to restore various coaches,
cabooses, and freight cars. Many exciting projects are
underway or soon to begin. New helpers are welcome.
- Passenger operations and school charters: Persons who have
experienced the trains are particularly encouraged to join our
school charters.
- Track Maintenance: We are laying track for additional
displays and help is always needed.
If you are interested send an email
stating your interests or contact the appropriate person on the contact
list and we will see that you are given the opportunity to become
involved.Training sessions for operation of the locomotive will be
held the first Saturdays of June, July, August, and September.
This is the time to get involved for those that want to learn
railroading operations.
